Honestly, if you're not prepared to enter and understand the British life and (tradition/) culture, you may get as bored as those audience who were with me tonight for the film!
This is something different from the Hollywood style of comedy who makes you laugh every second but leave you nothing afterwards.
It's very BRITISH with a bloody (excuse me) annoying dog that barks all day and night, a vicar who lost touch with things around him (including 'bra'! :D) and lost his humour long ago, a nosey old lady (neighbour), a boy being bullied at school and many more issues about marriage and religion (or even to the use of the f*** word! :P).
I got so used to Rowan's Mr Bean that I almost forgot his real voice - which is in fact my favourite British accent! :D And he proves to be an excellent actor who can be a self-absorbed vicar thinking seriously about his speech for the convention, but at the same time, a warm and caring husband (who, after reciting 'Song of Soloman' that was said to be about SEX by Maggie Smith in the film, kisses gently on his wife's shoulder, representing that... 'he's back').
Maggie Smith should be the main draw in the film - absolutely wonderful in the characterisation as a nutty 'mum' who kills whoever(and whatever - Clarence the dog, remember?) stands between her daughter Gloria (Kristin Scott Thomas) and Walter (Rowan Atkinson), and even disturbs the harmony of the family. You wouldn't imagine how MURDER can be handled in such a lighthearted and funny way.
All in all, a charming and edgy piece of British black comedy (that goes with the tradition). I'd recommend it to those who want a taste of it - give it a go!
